2013 Edition

1 Nephi

1 Nephi is a foundational narrative detailing the prophet Lehi's exodus from Jerusalem, his son Nephi's rise to spiritual leadership, and their family's divinely guided journey to the Americas, interspersed with apocalyptic visions of the future.

2 Nephi

2 Nephi contains the final teachings of Lehi, Jacob's discourses on the Atonement, extensive quotations from Isaiah, and Nephi's prophecies regarding the last days, the coming forth of the Book of Mormon, and the conditional nature of grace.

Jacob

Jacob, brother of Nephi, assumes spiritual leadership, condemning the Nephites' growing pride, materialism, and unauthorized polygamy, while prophesying of Christ's atonement and the scattering and gathering of Israel through the Allegory of the Olive Tree.

Enos

Enos recounts his intense, day-long prayer for the remission of his sins, his subsequent intercession for the Nephites and Lamanites, and God's covenant to preserve the Nephite records for future generations.

Jarom

Jarom briefly records the spiritual and material state of the Nephites, emphasizing that obedience to the Law of Moses and faith in the coming Messiah preserves them from destruction by the Lamanites.

Omni

A brief record kept by five successive authors detailing the Nephite migration under King Mosiah to the land of Zarahemla, their unification with the Mulekites, and an exhortation to offer one's whole soul to Christ and endure to the end for salvation.

Words of Mormon

Mormon explains his editorial process of inserting the small plates of Nephi into his abridgment due to a spiritual prompting, and summarizes King Benjamin's reign of peace established through warfare and prophetic authority.

Mosiah

Mosiah recounts the reigns of righteous kings Benjamin and Mosiah, the deliverance of Zeniff's people from Lamanite bondage, the martyrdom of the prophet Abinadi, and the establishment of the Church of God by Alma, culminating in the transition from a monarchy to a system of judges.

Alma

The Book of Alma is the longest book in the Book of Mormon, detailing the history of the Nephites under the reign of the judges, featuring profound theological discourses on the Atonement, faith, and the afterlife, alongside extensive accounts of missionary work and military campaigns to preserve religious liberty.

Helaman

The Book of Helaman chronicles a period of intense spiritual and political turmoil among the Nephites, highlighting the destructive nature of pride and secret combinations, while featuring powerful prophecies of Jesus Christ's imminent birth and death.

3 Nephi

3 Nephi recounts the cataclysmic destruction in the Americas at the time of Christ's crucifixion, followed by His physical appearance, ministry, and establishment of His church among the Nephites.

4 Nephi

4 Nephi chronicles a 300-year period beginning with a utopian, unified Christian society following Christ's visit, which gradually decays through pride and wealth into total apostasy and division.

Mormon

A historical and prophetic account detailing the final destruction of the Nephite civilization due to their wickedness, and the preservation of their sacred records to come forth in the latter days.

Ether

The Book of Ether recounts the rise and total destruction of the Jaredite civilization in the Americas, emphasizing that inhabitants of this promised land must serve Jesus Christ or face divine annihilation, while highlighting the profound faith of the brother of Jared.

Moroni

The Book of Moroni serves as a concluding manual of church administration, theological discourses on faith, hope, and charity, and a final exhortation to seek a spiritual witness of the text's truthfulness.
